Google Adsense, How to Make Money - Launching Adwords Ads and More on Placement

Another way to learn about Adsense is to use the other side of the Google  advertising coin: Adwords. Running an advertising campaign through Adwords allows you to learn which ads may show up on your website.

By running an Adwords campaign for the website where you will run Adsense ads, you will develop ideas for which keyword terms will display which ads. By using the Google recommended cost per click and daily budget recommendations, you will be able to garner an estimate to the value of the ads in Adsense. Using Google's recommendations, you can see what Google is telling advertisers they need to spend to appear on websites like yours and your competitors'.

Additionally, ad format and placement as mentioned earlier will have an impact on the revenue your ads will generate. It is best to places ads above the fold, which is defined as the area on your page before having to scroll down.

Ad sizes too will have an impact on revenues, and typically the 120x600 or 160x600 skyscrapers work best surrounding your content in the columns left or right. For ads placed inline with content the larger rectangles of 300x250 and 336x280 are a best practice to use in the content sections.

In my best experiences, the inline ads should blend in and not stand out from your pages. You will want the ad to be seen by the user, be relevant to what the user is reading, and not intrude on your user. That is advertising at its finest, placing an ad before someone (who never realizes it was an ad to begin with) who is interested enough to follow the link.

Google has recently added search, image ads and Adlinks, which are ads served as links without the description below the title line. It is yet to be seen how effective the Adlinks ads are going to be. However, image ads seem to be converting well, if not better than their contextual counterparts. Adsense for Search allows you to make money by offering search to your users. You can choose between searching the current site pages or searching the world wide web. Ad results displayed and clicked on will generate revenue for you.

In closing, there are several key components to ensure Adsense success:

    • Create channels for proper reporting.
    • Track performance with channels.
    • Optimize content for quality keyword terms.
    • Optimize the page coding where Adsense ads will run.
    • Advertise your Adsense Ads with Adwords.
    • Use skyscraper ads and inline rectangles.
    • Make use of other Google ad placements such as Search and Adlink.

By following what Google offers along with what I have written, you too can earn a nice recurring revenue stream.
