Now if we scroll to the bottom of all four of these sites we find links to even more junk sites. The first is http://dogbreedersdirectory.com. Then there is this one, http://2 000dogs.com, which may be a clue to the state of these sites as it seems the builders intend to build 2000 dupe content sites mixed with junk directories.
How does that make you feel? Seems Google has been lying to us. As I understand it, there is a reasonable expectation that news-based websites would have duplicate content between them, so there should be a filter but no penalty applied. However this is not the same issue. This is a clear indication of attempting to spam a search engine, and it is allowed to go unpenalized, nor is it filtered out as it can be seen that the duplicate sites have page rank. Another of their spam offerings, http://www.puppieswanted.com, is a page with over 100 links, yet has a Google PageRank 4 of 10.
These are some of the worst abusers of duplicating sites that I have seen and this has helped them get top 5 listings for 150 different breeds of puppies. (examples: Yorkshire Terrier Puppies, Labrador Retriever Puppies) on Google.
Well let's dig a little deeper. The Internet allows us to search things and find answers, and one answer is a company called JCOM Designs LLC. JCOM Designs LLC owns many website properties in the pet industry. Most of the sites they own use link schemes supposedly ferreted out during the Jagger update of November 2005. They use the schemes to propel the list of the pet related websites they own to front page results on Google. The sites are http://www.pupcity.com, www.terrificpets.com, http://www.terrific-cats.com, http://www.terrific-horses.com, and http://www.puppyescrow.com, which is an escrow company for people buying and selling pets. I also see that they have branched out to babies at http://www.baby-names-and-stuff.com. They have managed to deceive and cheat honest small mom and pop hobbyists and breeders with several scum cheats, link loaded awards, link loaded banners, badges and web counters loaded with links.
If a pet site owner wanted to have their site listed on the offending site, they need only partake in a banner exchange. Well that doesn't seem too bad until you see the banner code.
