How To Put Your Link Trading On Steroids

Here is a powerful technique that gets the people who trade links with you actively promoting your website and your products.

Link swapping/trading is a powerful method for improving your search engine rank, increasing traffic, and improving sales.

However, there is a way of doing a link trade, or link swap, that VASTLY improves traffic and sales, and to a lesser degree your search engine ranking as well. I personally call this method “joint venturing your joint ventures.” 

Allow me to explain. A typical “link swap” is little more than someone agreeing to put your link on their site in exchange for you doing the same.

The best link swaps involve “in context” linking where you put links in your actual content on your website (and again your link partner does the same for you). As an example, if you notice right here in, indeed right here in this article, there are numerous links. That’s a good example of an in context link.

But there is a much better way of doing this, particularly if you’re a smaller player in the niche you are targeting. You should know that this method is the most powerful for you “infopreneurs” out there.

What you do is come up with a product idea for your target niche. Then you contact other webmasters in the same space as you, and get them to contribute to the product. You’ll want at least five contributors to the product, not including your own contribution.

Your pitch here is this: first, you’ll earn 75 percent of the gross profit on all sales of the product you make, even though most of the content will be coming from other people. Further, you will be providing to each of your contributors the names and email addresses of all buyers of the product. This means that each of your contributors will increase the size of their own customer databases, which will hugely improve their sales well into the future.

Now you may be thinking that it wouldn’t be right to do that; and that isn’t so. It is perfectly ethical, and indeed only logical, and if you do it right, your customers will want you to do it.

First, the people that bought the product are buying partially from the contributor. Therefore it is only fair that they know who their customers are. Second, if you’re smart, when you are “pitching” the product you’ll say “and you’ll be getting further information directly from each of the contributors.” In other words, tell your potential customers what you’re doing in a way that shows a benefit to them.

Indeed, to a smart Web business operator, the customer list will be more valuable than even the somewhat massive profit percentage they’ll be getting. You see, they’ll be able to continue marketing to those people well into the future.

Now you may be wondering, “where’s the link swap in here, and how does all this benefit me, especially since I’m giving away so much of the profit?”

First, the link swap is in the fact that each of your contributors will be actively marketing the product. Each one will have links going to your site, where the product is being sold. Your site will have “Contributor Bios” on the sales page for the product that talk about each of the contributors and have links back to the contributors’ pages.

Second, the benefit to you is two fold. There is the obvious remaining profit percentage that you’ll be keeping, and while keeping only 25 percent of the profits may seem small, in reality it isn’t. Think of it in this way: if you didn’t get the “help” of those contributors in marketing the product you’d make a lot less money. In other words, you’re not “giving up” 75 percent of the profits … you’re getting 25 percent more profits than you would have otherwise received! You’ll be jumping your own profits up by 25 percent times your number of contributors. Also, remember that you’ll be keeping all of the profits on the sales that you make.

However, the largest benefit to you in doing this is the same as the benefit to your contributors. You’ll be getting access to their customer base. When your contributors get some of their people to buy your product, they’ll become your customer now too. In other words, your customer base will grow by leaps and bounds thanks to the marketing efforts of your contributors to sell the product.

Do you see what I’m saying here? This is more than just some link swap. This will be your contributors outright endorsing your site. To say that this is better than any “regular” link swap is like saying the sun is brighter than the moon.

Now, let me be clear about something. This technique is truly only worthwhile if your contributors are “major players” in your target niche. They should have very large customer databases of their own as well as a certain “celebrity status” within that niche.

Now that celebrity status isn’t terribly important, but at a minimum the person should be highly respected by their customer base/regular website visitors.

You see, what you’re looking for here isn’t just a link swap. You’re looking to create a joint venture with some of the “big boys” in your niche. It will only be by doing this with some people that have large customer bases that you’ll get the kind of return I’m talking about here.
Further, it does you no good to do a joint venture with someone that has a ten thousand person customer list … but all of his customers think the guy is a shyster. You want to attach yourself not only to people that have large customer bases, but also to people who are respected by their customers.

In that way you’ll be obtaining yet a third benefit to this whole thing: becoming one of the “respected people” yourself. You see, by simply surrounding yourself with people in your niche that are already large and well respected, the people in that niche will see you the same way.

It will make subsequent sales of subsequent products that much easier. It’ll be easier because you’ll already have a huge database of customers to sell to, and it’ll be easier because people in your market will already think of you as an “expert.”

With this “link swap on steroids” technique, you’re doing so much more than simply improving your search engine ranking. You’re looking to drive sales in a way that simply isn’t possible any other way. You’re looking to catapult yourself from just some new guy in the market to one of the market’s major players … and do so very quickly.

Now I’ve been told that “this technique just won’t work in my market.”

And to that I say that if you’re trying to work in a market where there isn’t anyone making any significant amount of money, you’re probably in the wrong niche to begin with.

That said, there really aren’t very many of those types of markets. You just have to be willing to go out and discover who the major players in that niche are.

You should also know that by “contacting” these folks, I absolutely do not mean that you send them an email. Instead, use a “whois” service and find out the contact phone numbers for the domain name. Then pick up the phone and call them.

Explain the whole deal, including all of the benefits to them, right there on the phone. It’ll make you a real person, someone with whom a relationship can be developed. That will make it easier not only to actually do the deal the first time, but even better, to do subsequent deals later on down the road.

Another reason for not using email is the plain and simple fact that most people don’t read email messages from people they don’t know and immediately recognize. So if you send them an email message, the person you hope will become a contributor may not even read the message in the first place.

Therefore, you simply must use the phone. The other option, if the person you want to have contribute to your project is in another country, is to simply send them an actual postal snail mail.

This is a point I can not stress enough. Attempting to do this type of deal by initiating the contact via email will almost certainly doom you to failure before you even begin. Only after you’ve spoken with, or written to (again via snail mail), can you use email effectively.

So lets run through the steps to get this done.

Step 1:

Discover the wants/needs/problems/desires of your niche and create an information product to fill that area. You’ll also want to put up a website.

Step 2:

Discover who the biggest players are in that niche and get them to contribute to the project. Call them on the phone and explain the many benefits, which are:

  1. 75 percent of the profits

  2. The ability to massively grow their customer list thanks to the actions of the other contributors.

Step 3:

Combine the stuff from your contributors into a single product and update the website sales letter so that it talks about the contributors additions and features pictures/biographical information on each of the contributors (including you).

Step 4:

Let your contributors know they can begin selling! If you’re smart, and this whole thing was put together as an information product, you can even use ClickBank ( to take care of paying your contributors so that you don’t have payment processing, or paying your contributors, or any of that to worry about at all.
