Website Themes: How to Play a Happy Tune - How Can You Better Theme a Website?

When you set up a website, it’s a good idea to have a goal for that site in mind. Having a specific goal, and an idea about how the site will be developed on page, and linked off page, will pay huge dividends.

    A Link Development Plan

A link development plan that targets similar and complementary websites, will work best to theme your site. The ultimate goal is to theme your site to reach the much sought after authority site status. To achieve a strong theme level and ultimately authority status, a sound linking policy is required.

The chosen linking policy will link out to sites that are on similar topics to your site. By providing benefit to your visitors, you may also gain favor from Google’s algorithm. While it remains debatable if linking out benefits a site, it is known that both hub sites and authority sites are partly built through outgoing links. It appears to be the case, that linking out to similarly themed sites, will take your website a long way toward building a hub site. The same linking out would also work for developing an authority site.

Make certain that all of your link anchor text is themed to your site. That shouldn’t be too hard. What are needed as well are linking partners who share your website’s themes. If you can get a link from a competitor, which is the most difficult to do, it is very helpful. At first glance, it might not appear to be a great idea. However, with themeing and a long-term goal of achieving authority site status, it is ideal for you.

Your competitors links are still helpful for you to study, however. Try to get links, or at least reciprocal links from them too. By their being link partners with your competitors, they are already themed to your site.

    Widen Your Content Keyword Base

Add lots of fresh keyword rich content pages to your site. By gradually widening your content keyword base, your site will be themed for even more keyword phrases. Be certain to theme each page with unique title tags as well. Google will understand the title tags are the main theme of that page, provided they match the main keywords on the page.

For example, with a travel site, adding pet travel content pages will theme your site for pet sites. By discussing cruise wear, you are themeing your site for clothing and footwear. The continual addition of fresh content adds even more themes to your site. More pages of content also works toward becoming an authority site in your industry.

    Add a Blog

The addition of a blog (short for weblog) to your site makes the addition of themeing very easy. Simply by writing a fresh blog post entry, a link or group of links can be placed entirely within the keyword context of the page. Because of the ease of adding new blog posts, adding new themes to a website can take place almost immediately.

The generous linking practices of blog writers (called bloggers) adds large numbers of well themed incoming links to your site in a hurry. Bloggers tend to freely link to articles, blogs, and traditional websites of interest to their readers. Often, blog links are placed right in the text of their regular blog posts and contain powerfully themed link text.

A hidden advantage of the blogger’s choice of link text is the variation from link text you would ordinarily utilize. The change in link text, while remaining within your site’s theme, helps to avoid any potential link text over optimization filters.
